GemCare Wellness Earns Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Preliminary Recognition for Diabetes Prevention Program
Second year of recognition, Program proven to be advancing toward full CDC recognition
Hudson, OHIO – May 15, 2019: GemCare Wellness (GCW), a national health coaching and disease management company, has earned preliminary recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for its successful Diabetes Prevention Program. This designation is given to programs that have proven to be advancing toward full CDC recognition.
For its second year in a row, GemCare Wellness has participated in the CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program – a partnership of public and private organizations that are working to either prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Through an intensive lifestyle change program, GemCare Wellness, a program partner, is helping people at risk reduce their chance of getting type 2 diabetes.
GemCare’s team of Licensed, Registered Dietitians deliver a proven program that emphasizes the need to make lasting lifestyle changes through a supportive classroom setting over the course of one year. Using the CDC-supported curriculum, RDs educate and facilitate interactive discussions among groups, whose goal is to lose 5-7% of their starting weight by the end of the year-long program. According to the CDC, participants under 60 years old who take part in a structured lifestyle change program can reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes by 58%.[1]
Our team of Registered Dietitians work with participants in a classroom setting to establish goals for healthy eating and increased physical activity. Not only does this program create positive, long-lasting change, but has proven results in helping people reduce their risk of getting type 2 diabetes and becoming healthier.
Classes cover a variety of health and wellness topics including meal planning, tips for eating healthy away from home, and ways to increase daily activity. Sixteen group classes are delivered in the first six months of the program, and six group classes are delivered in the last six months of the program.
